The New York State Conference of the AAUP will be holding its spring meeting at the Marymount Campus of Fordham University in Tarrytown on April 1-2, 2005.Frank Mauro

General Membership Meeting

The theme for this meeting is Politics and Higher Education. On Friday afternoon, April 1, Assemblywoman Amy Paulin (D) (right) will address the Conference. Frank Mauro (left), Executive Director of the Fiscal Policy Institute, will then speak on "The Politics of Higher Education Funding in New York State". The location will be the Library Lecture Hall of the Gloria Gaines Library, at the Marymount College of Fordham University The discussion, at 4:15 p.m., is open to the public.

The discussionCaravela will be preceded by an Executive Committee meeting 2 - 3:45 p.m. in the Library Board Room, 4th Floor in the Gloria Gaines Library. All AAUP Members are Invited to the Executive Committee Meeting.

The discussion will be followed by a social hour (5:30-6:30 p.m.) in the Faculty Lounge in Gerard Hall, hosted by the Marymount/Fordham AAUP Chapter.

Arnold Cantor, former Executive Director of PSC/CUNY, will speak on The Impact of the Political Orientation of the National Labor Relations Board on the Higher Education Union Movement.

On Saturday, April 2, there will be a buffet breakfast at the Dolce Tarrytown House (see below). Union ChurchAt 10 a.m., the business meeting resumes, with elections of a Secretary, a Treasurer, and two Members-at-Large. From 10:30 a.m. till noon, Mark Smith (below left), AAUPs Director of Government Relations, will speak on Protecting the Promise of Higher Education in an Era of Fiscal Challenge. This is also an open event.

The Marymount AAUP Chapter will host a visit to the Union Church of Pocantico Hills (right) at 2:30 p.m. The church features stained glass windows created by two celebrated modern masters, Henri Matisse and Marc Chagall.

The Conference has reserved a block of rooms at the Dolce Tarrytown House, East Sunnyside Lane, Tarrytown NY 10591 for Friday night, April 1, 2005. If you are driving, take Exit 9 on the New York State Thruway, the exit just east of the Tappan Zee bridge. Take Route 9 north into the center of Tarrytown. Turn right onto Neperan Road; take it to the top of the hill. Turn right onto Marymount Avenue. See map below.
