Keynote Speaker
Topic: Zone of Ambivalence
Information: The whirlwind exchanges among pollsters, the press, politicians and the public often yields reports in which nearly all voters express an opinion towards the issue of the day. Consumers of these reports are left with the impression that voters are sufficiently informed and have upon reflection formulated a stance on the issue. Dr. Don Levy, Director of the Siena College Research Institute shows that large percentages of voters, in some cases a majority have neither the information nor the inclination to develop passionate or actionable opinions, and that those that report public opinion, or fashion or promote policy based on halfhearted majorities, fail to understand the zone of ambivalence in which much of the electorate resides. |

 |
Ellen Schrecker

Topic: The Lost Soul of Higher Education: Corporatization, the Assault on Academic Freedom, and the End of the American University Information: Ellen will be speaking on the subject of her just published new book.
